Government-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has seen substantial gains from its investments in Adani group shares, which have experienced a significant recovery over the past year. The number of times public sector undertakings (PSUs) have held conference calls with investors, their capital management, and debt financing are among the parameters that the Centre will use to judge their performance for the first time, a senior official in the know said. The government on Tuesday announced setting up of hubs to promote exports through e-commerce medium in public-private-partnership (PPP) mode and initially 10-15 hubs will be established. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that these hubs, under a seamless regulatory and logistic framework, will facilitate trade and export-related services under one roof. RPG Enterprises Chairperson Harsh Goenka on Tuesday said the NCLT should be the next institution to be cleansed by the government to prevent "hard earned public money being stolen" as companies' promoters stash away money on the side and get "80-90% haircut" from bankers during the insolvency resolution process. In an apparent reference to recent cases of insolvency proceedings of some firms wherein creditors have taken huge haircuts on their dues, Goenka said it is the "new game in town". Insolvency resolution plans require approval of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
